UAZ Patriot, aka UAZ-3163, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Over the years, Ulyanovsk engineers have not sat idly by and constantly updated the design, and the most extensive modernization was done last year.
Introduced in August 2005, the UAZ-3163, aka Patriot, was actually a deep modernization of the 3162 or Simbir model, which in turn was created on the basis of the UAZ-3160. The latter appeared in 1997, but its development has been going on since the 80s. Therefore, no new grille, 18-inch wheels, bumpers and headlights with LED running lights are able to hide the venerable age of the car.
The doors are now with new handles, painted in body color, it has become more convenient to get into the cabin thanks to the running boards integrated into the body. Before my eyes is a massive steering wheel without the now fashionable buttons and the often necessary adjustment for reach, but now it’s easier to get behind the “steering wheel”. Thanks to the new chairs with height adjustment and stepless tilt adjustment. It can even be folded flush with the rear sofa, arranging an impromptu sleeping place. The profile of the chair has become better, and the thickness is less, providing additional centimeters to the rear riders.
Behind is now completely royal space, the sofa has become more comfortable, a central armrest has appeared, only it’s not very comfortable to sit because of the rather low pillow. Still, frame cars are not easy to make truly comfortable - a high floor with a cardan under it interferes. But if earlier UAZ and comfort were practically antonyms, now the Patriot has noticeably ennobled. The top version of the Limited even has seat heating in the back, and I can tell you that it works very diligently. Even the air ducts in the central tunnel to the rear riders were carried out, which was never done in the updated Mitsubishi Outlander.
In the maximum configuration, equipment at the level of European and Asian counterparts: air conditioning, an on-board computer, electric rear-view mirrors with built-in turn signal and heating, headlights with LED DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels, ABS / EBD, power steering, steering wheel adjustment height, immobilizer, alarm with remote control of the central lock, parking sensors, height adjustment of the driver's seat, adjustment of the lumbar support of the driver's seat, front/rear electric windows, heated front and rear seats, multimedia navigation system, rear view camera, electric heated windshield in windshield wiper rest area, additional interior heater, roof rails, spare wheel container and much more.
